Now having come to understand that we are all spiritual beings who have chosen to temporarily live a physical existence on this planet, certain musings are inevitable, and shared here.

Christopher Columbus was an illegal alien!

This is an amazing statement! Think about it! Then be the first on your block to send a $10 tax-deductible donation to Morning Glory Foundation and get two of these bumper stickers to put on your vehicles! [2961]

Was he, really? It seems to me that what's kind of perverse about illegal aliens today is that laws were established to make some "illegal." Did such laws exist during Columbus' time?

When were such laws first created on our continent? And by whom?

The bumper sticker reveals the hypocrisy and racism of many americans and also reveals how peaceful and welcoming the Red Peoples were to all newcomers to Great Turtle Island (misnomer "western hemisphere") - a fact covered over and ignored by most of the world's people today.

There is also a great cartoon about this in the Florida Times paper with the "pilgrims" in a boat offshore as "Indians" build a fort wall along the beach stating,
They say they (NDN's)dont want us here if we can't learn their language and assimilate."

Hafidha, I guess I cannot claim that it is literally true that Columbus was an illegal immigrant. As SB pointed out the Indigenous people were very welcoming of the Europeans. However, the point is, I think, to illustrate that he certainly did not reciprocate the respect and benefit of the doubt given to him. The Indigenous peoples certainly had as much or more right to refuse him entry than modern "America" has to refuse entry to our neighbors from the south. His intentions were clearly not respectable, and yet many still venerate him as a respectable man.

I do not know about the "Illegal Alien" part, but I do know that Columbus was not the "great man" that everyone thinks he was.
The truth about him should be in every school book in the world, so that all children may know that he was an intolerant, cruel, and misleading slave trader...He took many of our NDN ancestors into slavery, and sold them for just this purpose.
And "they" have a day celebrating this man? Ha! Might as well have a
"General Custer Day", who was as much a butcher of our peoples as Columbus was!
And I agree with the cartoon mentioned with the pilgrims and NDN's...

Christopher Columbus day should be changed to Native American day out of respect for the people who originated from here. Many Euro-Americans would have perished here if Native Americans had not shown them how to survive the elements.

There is no such phenomenon as an illegal alien.

    Columbus was genocidal terrorist.

How about this, had the Euro's wanted to come here, & had been the ones to assimilate in all gratefulness, they would learn all the Indigenous dialects & languages of this land. That would keep them so busy they wouldn't have had time for anything else.

And as for the holiday for this lands Indigenous, well all the Trubal Nations & their people need to be involved with that.

Or to get more of you going.....how about no federal holidays at all? LOL
